WHAT IS JUNETEENTH?:
“Juneteenth” is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865 announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. Our goal is to educate people about African American freedom and achievements while encouraging continuous self-development and respect for all cultures. The purpose of this celebration is to create unity in the community, as well as to break pre-judgmental barriers about the origins of the African Americans path to freedom.
EVENT SUPPORTERS:
The Douglass High school Alumni Association is pleased to sponsor the 1st annual Juneteenth Festival in partnership with No more Shackles Mentoring Program, the Heritage foundation, the Thomas County NAACP, One Heartbeat, Inc., and the City of Thomasville.
